You have decided the life you have isnt what you desire anymore. Everyday seems to run together. It all seems the same. You long for something different. You have heard tale of a beggar named Salazar that knows a secret that can change your life. You decide you will search for him to see what the secret is that he may know. No one you have talked to is willing or able to give you details.
You go to Britain. The streets are bustling. Vendors are shouting their wares trying to get some poor sucker to buy them. The smells are almost nauseating. You can smell dung and other pet orders, mixed with liquor and alcohol from the saloons and taverns, plus the smells of food being cooked through out the city. You walk up to the bank and a teller through the window asks if she can help you. You tell her you are looking for a man by the name of Salazar. She says you are in luck , that is he behind the bank and she had just talked to him when she gave him her lunch leftovers.
You turn to head behind the bank when some big thug with straggly black hair and smells like a sewer bumps into you almost knocking you down. He turns and glares at you as if you had been the one to do it. You look away not really wanting to fight today. You continue struggling through the crowd and the mud that seems a foot deep today to get behind the bank. You finally arrive.
You see an old man sitting on the ground with his back against the cold brick of the bank. His clothes are worn and weathered as is he. His grey beard hangs to his lap and there are small twigs and some type of crumb in it. "Probably from the bank tellers lunch" you think. You take a step towards him. "Are you Salazar?" you ask. "Aye, I am. And you must be the one that is seeking my knowledge." he says. With a puzzled look on your face wondering how he would even know something like that ,you reply with "Yes Sir, I am". He pats a broken wooden crate that is next to him and tells you to step into his office and have a seat. You walk towards the crate and pretend to sit. Not wanting to put all your weight on it for fear of winding up in the trash and mud that is around it.
Before you have a chance to ask him anything, he begins, its almost as if he has done this sorta thing a million times. "So your not happy anymore and you want to leave all this behind and start a life somewhere else. What if I were to tell you that I can make it happen, and that you wouldnt even be in this same world? I am not saying you will be in another city here in this world starting over. I am saying you will be in a completely new world, where no one knows you, and you can begin as you wish. The only draw back is you will be starting with bare essentials. You will not be able to take anything from this world with you. Is this what you want?" You have had alot of time to think the last few days while you were searching for him. And you are positive that is indeed what you want. You look at Salazar and nod your head. He can see the seriousness in your eyes so he doesnt ask anymore. He opens up his coat and you can see him rummaging through an old vest pocket. He pulls out what looks like a coin. He holds it out to you and tells you that when you are ready, to break the coin in half. You reach for the coin, as you grab it, he doesnt release it, you look at him with a questionable look. He looks at you and says " But we havent discussed payment. The payment is, that I get everything you have on this world". Well its not like you are going to be needing it, you think. So you tell him all your worldly goods are now his. You take out the key to your house and the paper that tells your bank account number and hand it to him. With those in his other hand, he releases the coin. You stand and tip your hat to him, "G'Day Sir!" then turn and walk away. You are holding the coin so tight in your hand that it is actually hurting.
You go to the inn and with your last few coins you rent a room for the night. You sit on the edge of the bed that is covered in a grey wool blanket. You have the coin in your hand, flipping it over and over, staring at it. Not once had it crossed your mind that this could be some kind of trick just to get all of your posessions, until now. You know there is only one way to find out. You look at the coin intensely for a few moments, then you grasp the coin between your thumb and index finger on both hands and apply pressure. You finally hear a snap as the coin breaks. A smoke or cloud starts filling the room.
You start feeling extremely nauseated and dizzy, the room before you is spinning so fast you cant make heads or tails of anything. You feel as if you are going to vomit. Your throat getting colder as your head and body seem to be spinning in opposite directions. All of a sudden everything stopped and you collapse on what looks like nothing. There is no floor, no ceiling. No life forms, no scents. It is actually nothing. Pure black with tons of stars. You are afraid to move for fear you will fall into oblivion. You push against the nothingness with one hand to make sure you arent going to go anywhere if you move. It is solid. You slowly stand, very slowly. The idea of standing on nothing is at the least not what you had expected.
As you stand thousands of magical gates start to appear. There is no sound just beautiful shimmering blue gates. You start to take a step then remember you are walking on nothing and decide it best to test each spot you want to walk on before you place your weight on it. You put your left light brown leather shoed foot in front of you and lightly press...it holds. So you step. You do this until you are infront of one of the magical blue gates. As you step up to the gate, a mouth forms and says " This world is known as Dawn of Ages: The Rebirth". Well the name sounds nice. Not like {Last Shard name here}, but you cant expect all worlds to have {Last Shard name} as a name. You hold your breath and step through the gate. Again your head and body start twirling and spinning and again your stomach wrenchs. THUD! You land in an unfamiliar place. You are standing in a small brick room in the middle of a circle of candles. There is a skeleton chained to the wall and he seems to be talking. Seeing that makes you shiver and you very quickly need to find a way out of this room. You walk up to the bulletin board that is on the stone wall next to the skeleton and start reading the posts. It seems as if this bulletin board is magical because as soon as you are done reading it you are wisked to the ground. Thus begins your journey on Dawn of Ages: The Rebirth....
